PSAU received a delegation of the e-government program "Yesser". The visit aims to survey a number of governmental entities to discuss the usage of open source programs and to discuss the key ideas and suggestions that encourage its usage. In addition, the survey discusses the clients' notes, concerns and transformation plans regarding open source programs usage.
Furthermore, the delegation praised the university's represented by Deanship of IT and Distance Learning efforts in this field. According to Yesser, the deanship has the precedent in using Drupal system, which is one of the most famous software of open source programs, in building its e-portal. The deanship adoption to open source programs comes from its vision regarding expense reducing and finding the best alternatives to the closed source programs that increase the operational costs of the e-services.
It is worth mentioning, Yesser program will hold workshops to review the results of the researches and visits, and to review the best practice document in the adoption of the open source programs. It will also review the best alternatives document and success stories of governmental entities in this field.
